building relationships

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Today's the day to give treats to your loved ones (and even yourself!). It's also the perfect time to acknowledge other people you appreciate, for example your suppliers, clients and prospects too.

And so, I have cooked up something special for you...

First, your Valentine's gift!

Awkward networkerDo you feel awkward when you're at networking events? Are you less than thrilled to attend a networking event and would rather be home with a good book (or even housecleaning) than talk to people you don't even know? There are ways to make networking more comfortable - and more productive - even for shy, nervous, or reluctant networkers.

December is an interesting month for business. Many of my clients find that sales soften and slow down - some industries more so than others. I frequently hear the comment that now is not a good time for business.

Yes, it's true that business does shift gears for many in December but actually this is a GREAT time for business! That's right... "business", notice that I didn't say "sales".

This past weekend I spent Saturday at the TEDxCapU event and had the opportunity to hear some great speakers share fresh ideas. The a couple really stood out for me and so here’s some thoughts that most inspired me…

At this time of year our thoughts drift to Thanksgiving and the people and the things in our lives that we're thankful for.

At least that's how it is supposed to go, but sometimes, when times are tough or extra busy it can be hard to remember that even if there are challenges, we have many things to be grateful for. Expressing gratitude one of the surest ways to not only feel more encouraged, but it also helps in attracting more positive things and people into our lives.

When was the last time someone connected with you?  No, not to solicit business or one of those so-called "follow up" calls after a networking event that ends up being a meaningless call or vague pitch of their services.

Do you find networking difficult or stressful? If so, you're not alone. If the truth be told many business owners tolerate or dislike networking because they find it challenging or just fed up with minimal results - even many of those who seem naturally good at it.

And there's a reason for that - if you consider how most people approach networking, it's not surprising they find it less than fulfilling.

Do you believe in the summer lull?  How about Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy?  They're all myths.  Read on to discover why summer is the perfect time to move ahead of your competition.

Most people believe that "everybody" is out of town during the summer.  And so they think they're excused from putting any effort into marketing.  Let them.

If you're looking to grow you business faster, start by looking for opportunities to build referral partner relationships. I consider this "networking on steroids". After all, wouldn't you love it if you started to get referrals coming your way... every week!

Networking is about making connections.  The more quality connections you make, the better for your business. But making connections is a skill that some people find challenging.  Fortunately, it's also a skill that can be learned.  And not only that -- if you can just eliminate the biggest mistake people make, you'll improve your results significantly, ...and fast.
